— In 1969, Peter Suchy was able to leave Prague and enter the Federal Republic of Germany. This opened up entirely new horizons and opportunities for the trained nuclear physicist and avid guitarist to put his passion for the most perfect possible music reproduction into practice using his own ideas.

The search for the “musical truth” preserved in vinyl initially led to a compact loudspeaker system. But Peter Suchy quickly realized – not least thanks to his scientific inclination to get to the bottom of things – that the crucial factors influencing sound occur where the mechanical information from the record is converted into electrical signals. As early as 1978 – the year he founded his company, clearaudio – Peter Suchy developed and unveiled the first fully balanced moving-coil system, causing quite a stir in the hi-fi scene, which was still entirely analog at the time.

Over the decades, Peter Suchy succeeded in permanently establishing the clearaudio brand with further milestones in analog technology and leading it to ever-new heights – for example, with the magnetic platter bearing, which perfectly decouples the drive mechanism from the turntable, the acquisition of the U.S. specialist Souther – whose tangential tonearms were refined and optimized by Peter Suchy and which complement the clearaudio portfolio in an almost ideal way – or the ingenious “Absolute Phono” project, in which a tiny preamplifier positioned in close proximity to the cartridge reduces potential interference to a minimum.

Through all these projects, Peter Suchy has driven the consistent expansion of his workshop into an internationally successful company that currently employs around 50 people. Under his leadership, this passionate analog enthusiast and researcher has shaped clearaudio into an extremely valuable brand that reinforces the “Made in Germany” reputation on an international level with correspondingly high-quality products. The significant proportion of OEM products manufactured for internationally renowned audio companies is a result of Peter Suchy’s consistent quality strategy.

In 2005, Peter Suchy stepped back from day-to-day operations and handed over management to his three children, Veronika, Patrick, and Robert. Nevertheless, the senior founder can still be found regularly at the company’s headquarters in Erlangen, Franconia, where he continues to follow the fortunes of the world-renowned company he once founded and led to great international success with undiminished interest. And as clearaudio celebrates its 40th anniversary this year, we honor clearaudio’s founder and senior executive, Peter Suchy, with the FIDELITY LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD.

Congratulations, Peter Suchy.
