Frequently Asked Questions

Turntables

1. Is there an upgrade possibility for the Champion Limited?

Unfortunately not, the Champion Limited is a self-contained package to a very low price.

2. How big is the sound difference between Emotion and Champion?

The more massive the platter chassis is the better is the smoothness.
As the Champion turntable has a higher platter (30 mm / 1,2 inches) than the Emotion
(20 mm / 0,8 inches) it`s operate smoother and a better sound will be achieved.
Through the more massive chassis of the Champion nuisance resonances , which can be transfused to the pick up, will be disabled.
The result is a homogeneous sound with a lot of dynamic and a very good analogue representation.
These characterize all our turntable, but at the Champion a little bit more than at the Emotion.

3. How can you avoid vibrations of the turntables as the case may be how you can transfer these vibrations?

The connection to the ground (setting up place) by spikes is only punctual.
Through the spikes the vibrations and resonances will be transferred in the best way, without moving your Hifi-Rack in a heavy way by a too big setting up place.

4. Why is the Champion more expensive?

The Champion turntable has a higher chassis platter (30 mm / 1,2 inches), which need consequently also a bigger and more complex bearing. This bearing need in turn a higher chassis and a more powerful motor, which is in a massive stainless steel cascet.

Cartridges / Pick-ups

1. How is the sound difference between cartridges made out of wood and steel?

The wood which is selected by clearaudio sounds more warmish und its used for acoustic music like Classic or Percussion.
The steel which is selected by clearaudio sounds more strong and its therefore used for electronic music like Rock and Pop.
Irrespective of this is the individuell and subjective auditory sense also very important.

2. Is it possible to get only a new cantilever from clearaudio if the cantilever is broken or twisted to repair the defective cartridge for myself?

This is not recommended by Clearaudio!
After the production of our cartridges their will be measured and accordingly to the measurement results classified. If you repair the cantilever by yourself the origin measured date are no longer guaranteed. Normally the sounds results are not so good after such a self-assembly.
Clearaudio offers for this attractive trade-in policies.

Tonearm

1. What`s is the sound difference between the Satisfy tonearm and the Unify tonearm?

The tube of our Unify tonearm is made of carbon, a material with very good sound characteristics and small weight with extremely high rigidity. The Unify`s sound regards to the Satisfy is better.
However the Satisfy scored with its simple operability.

2. What is the advantage of the Unify one pont bearing to the Satisfy dual point design?

The extrem hard saphire bearing of the Unify is sitting on a pointedly bolt.
Due to this minimum friction every perturbations will be reduce.

3. Which tonearm is easier to adjust? Satisfy or Unify?

All our tonearms are maintenance-free. Through a very detailed and well thought out construction as well as understandable manual instruction are both tonearms very easy to set up.
Included in delivery you find a tonearm adjustment template, which can be used for all radial toneamrs. If you have although problems clearaudio recommend his tonearm adjustment template made out of aluminium. With this you can very easy adjust the overhang, offset angle and the azimuth in one step.

4. Which tonarme is more robust, Satisfy or Unify?

Our radial tonearms are both robust. At rough movements the Unify can a little bit swing, but he level out in a short time. This is due to the special development of the eccentric counter weight. It shifted down the balance point of the tonearm and keep it calm.

5. How regulate Unify and Satisfy the reaction - through a tongue or a balanced weight?

All clearaudios tonearms are regulated by weights. Using tongues means a very complex mechanics and that can be a source of perturbation.

Miscellaneous

1. What can be done at complicated installation circumstances (e.g. ground, cavity, glass...) ?

At inappropriate installation circumstances we recommend our Magix2 . With the clearaudio Magix2 you have excellent decoupling.

2. What is the difference between smart phono, basic and nano phono?

The switching mechanism is at the devices the same. The basic has thru-hole components as the Smart Phono has a SMD construction.
The construction of the switching mechanism of the Nanophono is easier. However it has a switchable subsonic - filter and a switchable load resistance for MC cartridges.

3. Are the Outer Limit and the Locator suitable for every turntable?

The Outer Limit fits on every turntable with a maximum platter diameter of 317 mm (12.48 inches).
The Locator fits only at clearaudio turntables.
To center the Outer Limit at turntables from other manufacturers we recommend the clearaudio Center Spider.

4. How thick is the Vinyl Harmo-nicer?

2.0mm

5. What dimensions have the dust covers?

For information on the dust cover dimensions, please go to Products/Accessories/Acrylic dust covers.

6. What is the difference between the Matrix record cleaning machine and the Smart Matrix record cleaning machine?

In comparison to the Smart Matrix the Matrix provide following advantages:

  • a noise-friendlier wet suction turbine (10 dB difference)
  • durable direct current motor with worm gear from the automobile industry
  • a collector made of high-grade steel with 2 1/2 - times more volume contents
  • a two-way running in ball bearings, 12mm thick precision-turned platter
  • electrical application of the liquid over tracer, integrated tank (0.75 Ltr.)
  • distribution of the liquid over brush with adjustable contact pressure by integrated neodymium magnets
  • insensitive housing made out of plastic plates
  • adjustable rotation speed of the platter (optional)
  • Seal record clamp
  • 2-step vacuum device
  • suitable for long-term operation
  • lighted On / Off- switch

7. What turntables can use the CMB-(ceramic-magnetic-bearing)?

Actually all Clearaudio turntables, beside the Emotion series and the Marantz. However is planned to upragde this models.

8. Is it possible to buy turntables, cartridges, tonearms or electronic directly from clearaudio?

Unfortunately not. Basically the customer can only buy clearaudio products at our authorized specialised trade or distributors.
